Spring Cleaning Quick Tips

As spring approaches, now is the perfect time to get your home decluttered and in order. If you're the type of person that feels like their entire home needs to be organized, well there's no need to panic. I have listed some easy tips to help guide you through the process. Also, I have attached a checklist for every area, so you can monitor your progress and make sure no space is left behind. If you want to get organized for spring, but you're not ready to take it on yourself, you should take advantage of my spring special that I’m offering until April 15th. When you book 3 hours, you get the 4th half off, OR you can receive $30.00 credit towards product for that area! Contact me for details and booking. Now, for some organizational tips and advice!

Tip 1: Start Small

I know it's easy to look at all the spaces that you want to tackle, get overwhelmed, then put if off. The key here is to start on a smaller area for example, a junk drawer in your kitchen or bathroom. When that small space is finished, you will see the progress quickly, and you'll want to continue moving to the other areas. I would not recommend beginning with a walk-in-pantry or your kid's playroom. Something more time consuming could be discouraging and disrupt the process.

Tip 2: Don’t begin a new space until one is completed

Do not begin a new space until the other one is completed: I know this can be difficult for some, especially if you feel like you can't stay focused. If you skip from room to room, it can be overwhelming, and you'll never feel like you're getting anywhere. Thus, it will be difficult to keep your momentum and complete all the spaces. I recommend that you make a promise to yourself. Promise that when you begin the kitchen, you will finish it completely before you start organizing the laundry room, bathroom, or anything else. This promise applies to all areas. To make it more fun, reward yourself when you complete a space, and be sure to cross it off your checklist as well!

Tip 3: Declutter as much as possible

Declutter as much as possible: now that you have promised yourself that you will start small, and that you'll stick to one space until completion, it's time to declutter as much as you can. If you want to see a lot of progress, this is half the battle. For instance, if your drawers, shelves, and cabinets are already overflowing with items, and you only purge a couple of things, then you can't expect much improvement. You can always create a better system; however, for the best results, purging will be necessary. Therefore, only keep things that you use, love, and need. If you're having trouble on whether you should keep an item, checkout my decluttering blog. It's a helpful guide on just keeping the essentials!

Tip 4: Less is more when it comes to product

Less is more: when it comes to product, many people are under the impression that everything needs to be in an individual bin. While I agree with this to a certain extent, it doesn't apply to most situations. When organizing a pantry, I like to group items in categories such as: "dinner", "sweets", "salty", "snacks", etc. This creates more room and makes items more accessible. This method can be applied to all areas. When you have an individual bin for everything i.e., chips, pretzels, rice, pasta- it takes up entirely too much space. Always be sure to measure your space, so that you can purchase the right product. Lastly, the type of product can make a difference. Get inspiration from similar spaces on my Instagram. This will be helpful when figuring out what will be most functional for you and your family!

Tip 5: Set a Deadline and Start Early

Start early in the day: when I begin something early, I am more likely to get it done, instead of putting it off until the afternoon or the next day. It's well known that your brain is fresher and more active at the beginning of the day. Try to have a positive attitude, so you can be more efficient! Set a deadline to make it more official and no more rescheduling!!

 Bonus Tip

If you have the extra time, I encourage my clients to sell the items they're getting rid of. Facebook has some really good resale groups, and you could always use that money towards product for your newly organized space(s)! This little bonus can make a big difference. I hope that you have enjoyed these tips on how to get started with your spring cleaning! Don't forget the attached checklist. Follow these steps, and you will have successfully conquered spring cleaning, or you can have Organize & Prioritize simplify your life and have you organized and satisfied!
